An All Hallows Catholic Primary School Five Dock student has excelled in the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition, a nation wide poetry competition.
Nina, Year 3, was the winner of the Lower Primary students category for her poems on birds. One of the judges Kate Apel stated in her critique that ” Nina’s poem, ‘This is a Wonderful World,’ is a delight!’ It offers a beautiful rhythm, rhyme, alliteration, imagery and feelings-pure joy! I’m sure bird lovers the world over will relate to this gorgeous little bird song.“
‘My poem ‘This is a wonderful world’ is about the actions of different types of birds. I love seeing them especially when I go on holidays with my family. They come to the verandah and we feed them’ said Nina.
Our Executive Director, Mr Tony Farley came to our school to present Nina with this special award. The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition was a national competition and all primary and secondary students were invited to create poems that were judged on their creativity, variety of language and use of stylistic devices, and were awarded prizes of $300, trophy and a prize pack.
