Congratulations to Sebastian in Year 2 who has received a commendation in the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition

There were  7,500 entries from across the nation and his poem “Summer Rain” was chosen.

Sebastian stated, “I really enjoy writing poetry and learning new words that rhyme. I wanted to talk about how it feels in the summer rain”

The Anthology is released annually and contains all the winning, runner-up, shortlisted, highly commended and commended poetry from the competition. It also discloses what the judges had to say about each poem in their respective judging categories!

In addition, Sebastian also received the “NAIDOC Medal of Excellence”  for his age category.

He was one of twenty-five  people from across the State as part of this year’s initiatives to receive this prestigious award.

“The initiative we are here to celebrate today provides a perfect illustration of how public awareness has been raised around these issues in recent times.The driving force behind this initiative has been Dylan Williams who clearly saw NAIDOC as a perfect opportunity to bring Australians together. He has Clearly done so”, stated the NAIDOC Week Minister.

He also has received a Silver Award for the NESA Write On Competition. His work has been published in the book entitled “Riding Against the Storm”.
